Car History:

With the S models, Mercedes had a spontaneous success in sales, even if its reputation was overshadowed by „childhood diseases”. The 2.5 l engines were creating problems: they were not well sealed and ate too much oil. These problems were removed by the Mercedes-Benz by developing the 280 S and 280 SE engines.

The production of the 250 models started in July 1965 and was final in March 1969. The 280 model stared its production in November 1967 and continued until September 1972. Before that, from 1965 until 1967 only the 300 SE model was produced, who was equipped with the well known 170 HP engine. In March 1971 the 280 SE model was placed on the market, with the new V8 engine. The 4.5 l model was available only for United States.
